Interviews
The SHINE Study is currently interviewing people who are involved with HEART, first response, public safety, and health efforts in Durham, NC. This includes those who have received services from the HEART program.

We will ask participants to detail their attitudes toward and experience with implementing or working with the HEART program.
Survey and Focus Groups
The SHINE study will survey Durham community members about their experiences with law enforcement, opinions on community safety, and improvements they’d like to see regarding safety.

Using a “Stats-n-Action” data analysis technique, we will ask community members to participate in focus groups to interpret survey responses. Ideally, this will allow the community to contextualize their own responses rather than leaving them in the hands of researchers.
